Similar to the recent storm tore through the northern region the night before, City overwhelmed the visitors away at the their home ground. It was a convincing three-nil win for their manager's side owing to goals from Rebecca Knaak, Shaw and Hemp. It was a performance that firmly established their leadership claims as they consolidated their place at the WSL pinnacle.

Successive Setbacks for United

This outcome marked successive Women's Super League losses for Marc Skinner’s side for the initial occasion since last May, placing them seven points off the top team with their trophy ambitions hanging by a thread.

Manchester United's ability to juggle league and European football with a small squad has been a widely debated topic since they earned a place in the European competition. Looking at the calendar, it always felt like this was the week that would truly test this ability. Sadly for the opposition, they looked tired throughout, the historic win against Paris Saint-Germain clearly having taken a toll.

Lineup Adjustments

Marc Skinner had sought to rotate the squad with a handful of alterations. Ella Toone, Elisabeth Terland, Dominique Janssen and Leah Galton all brought freshness, although the dropping of the in-form Melvine Malard to the substitutes caused surprise.

Dominant First Half
